In the heart of the Stuart Historical Neighborhood, a young Michigan couple, David and Emma Engerer, have passionately revitalized the 1895 French Allen House, a piece of Kalamazoo’s architectural heritage.

This Queen Anne gem boasts four bedrooms and four bathrooms across its 3,922 square feet of living space.
History of The French Allen House
The French Allen House traces its origins to its construction by Dorr French in 1895, a distinguished lawyer and Justice of the Peace whose legacy imprints each piece of ornate woodwork and stained glass adorning the property.

Under the stewardship of the Engerers, this legacy has not only been preserved but also thoughtfully enhanced.

In recent years, the exterior has been freshly painted, a state-of-the-art air conditioning system installed, and the foundation professionally waterproofed.

With David spearheading the hands-on restoration and Emma contributing her keen eye for design, they’ve overcome the myriad challenges that come with revitalizing this historic property.

Restored Amenities
The restored amenities of the French Allen House include not only its structural integrity but also features like the grand staircase and breathtaking windows that recall an era of exceptional craftsmanship.

Rivaling a professional chef’s dream, the kitchen boasts a double-oven Smeg stove, chic tile backsplash, and traditional farmer sink as its centerpiece.

Each spacious bedroom, including a master suite with an attached sitting room, offers a canvas for future memories.

Even the walk-up attic whispers potential, ripe for transformation into additional living space.

David and Emma’s dedication is a refreshing wave of renewal in the Stuart area, garnering praise from community leaders like Gary Wark, president of the Stuart Area Restoration Association.
