Same Street, 71 Years Apart



The top photo shows American soldiers moving through a German town near the end of World War II (around 1945).

You can see a soldier on the ground and an armored vehicle (likely a U.S. tank) in the background.

The sign reading “Sperlingsberg” is still there in the modern-day photo (bottom), taken 71 years later. 

Although many of the original half-timbered buildings have been updated or re-sided, the overall street layout remains recognizable.

Today, the street is peaceful and shows little evidence of the intense fighting once captured in the wartime image.
