The Department of Homeland Security reported that the incident unfolded on Friday when ICE agents attempted to arrest Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez, who had entered the U.S. illegally. According to DHS, the driver ignored orders and accelerated toward officers, prompting one agent to open fire. Villegas-Gonzalez was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The ICE officer involved was also hospitalized after the confrontation.

Congressman Rejects DHS Narrative
Illinois Rep. Chuy Garcia has challenged the official account, insisting the videos he reviewed tell a different story. “The videos that I’ve seen do not corroborate that story,” Garcia said. He criticized DHS for rushing to frame Villegas-Gonzalez as a dangerous criminal. “That’s why we’ve called for a real investigation, a complete investigation, and the release of all evidence that will tell us exactly what happened.”
