Donald Trump’s MAGA loyalists erupted in rage after Democrat Zohran Mamdani’s stunning victory in the New York mayoral race, marking a historic moment that sent shockwaves through conservative ranks. The Uganda-born “democratic socialist” clinched more than half the vote, prompting rightwing media, including the New York Post, to unleash a barrage of attacks that fused fear, ideology, and Islamophobia.

Rightwing Meltdown Over Socialist Win

Republicans were left reeling as Mamdani’s decisive win symbolized another crushing blow in the Democrats’ nationwide election sweep. The New York Post plastered its front page with the headline “The Red Apple,” showing Mamdani’s face on a red cartoon body holding a hammer and sickle under the caption “On your Marx, get set, Zo!” The cover fueled outrage among MAGA commentators, who accused New York voters of ushering in a “communist takeover.”

Hannity Warns of “Mamdani Effect”

On Fox News, host Sean Hannity fumed that Mamdani’s victory would trigger a mass exodus from New York. “My phone is blowing up. They are officially depressed and scared,” he said. Hannity claimed that 9% of New Yorkers were ready to leave if Mamdani won, dubbing the phenomenon the “Mamdani effect.” Referring to Mamdani’s Muslim background, he added, “If you had told me 24 years after 9/11 that somebody who was that radicalized would win this dramatically, I wouldn’t have believed it.”

Bannon Calls It a “Wake-Up Call”

Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon tore into Republicans who downplayed the victory, branding them “Bolsheviks.” On his War Room podcast, he blasted conservatives who claimed Mamdani’s tenure would simply expose socialist failures. “They’re not going to give up control of New York City. Once they infest New York City, it’s going to take a trenching tool to get them out,” Bannon said. In a later Politico interview, he called Mamdani’s win “a wake-up call,” warning, “There should be flashing red lights all over.”

Immigration and Islamophobia Narratives

Trump loyalists swiftly weaponized Mamdani’s background, tying his victory to immigration and Islam. Stephen Miller, the former White House policy aide, posted census data suggesting that “almost 50% of New Yorkers live in family households with at least one immigrant.” Far-right influencer Jack Posobiec shared a 1993 video of mostly white New Yorkers, writing, “NYC in 1993. Now exists only as a memory.” The posts fed into a wider narrative that blamed demographic change for Republican losses.

Loomer’s “Islamic Takeover” Claims

Provocateur Laura Loomer escalated the rhetoric, alleging that Republicans had failed to stop “an Islamic takeover” due to Qatari influence. “We have a major Islam problem in America. The GOP refuses to address it because the entire party is influenced by Qatar,” she wrote. Loomer claimed that Mamdani’s win, along with those of other Muslim Democrats, marked “the Islamic takeover of America,” and warned that “communism and Sharia have become normalized.”

Santos Lashes Out in Defeat

Former congressman George Santos, recently freed after Donald Trump commuted his seven-year sentence, unleashed fury at Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, who won just 7.1% of the vote. “Fuck you, @CurtisSliwa. I HATE YOU, your dumb wife, that stupid Beret of yours, and all your fucking cats!” Santos ranted on social media, blaming Sliwa for splitting the rightwing vote and helping Mamdani’s landslide.

Ackman’s Unexpected Grace

Billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman, a longtime critic of Mamdani, took a markedly different tone. “Congrats on the win. Now you have a big responsibility,” he posted, offering to help the new mayor. After backlash from fellow conservatives, Ackman defended his remarks, writing, “Mamdani won a decisive election. He is going to be our mayor for the next four years. I want to do everything I can to help NYC regardless of who our mayor is.”
