Authorities in Muskogee, Oklahoma, have arrested a couple after an 11-year-old girl gave birth at home, with DNA tests confirming her stepfather as the baby’s father. Dustin Walker, 34, faces charges of child sexual abuse, while the girl’s mother, Cherie Walker, 33, has been charged with enabling the abuse. Prosecutors called it one of the most serious child abuse cases they have ever seen.
DNA Evidence Links Stepfather
The case escalated after DNA results revealed Dustin Walker was a 99.9% genetic match to the newborn. Court documents allege he sexually abused the child between January and August, resulting in her pregnancy and delivery on August 16. Initially, both adults claimed ignorance of the pregnancy and were charged only with child neglect.
Charges Expanded Against Couple
On Monday, prosecutors upgraded the charges. Dustin Walker now faces child sexual abuse of a minor under 12, while Cherie Walker has been charged with enabling abuse. Both were also hit with six felony child neglect counts for failing to provide medical care during the girl’s pregnancy and birth, and for neglecting their five other children, ages 2 to 9.
Living Conditions Exposed
Authorities described the family home as “deplorable.” According to court records, the children were found in unsanitary conditions, exposed to dog feces, and lacking proper clothing. Investigators said the children had endured these conditions for months.
Children Removed From Home
The five siblings were taken into protective custody on August 20. Officials say the children had gone without adequate medical care and supervision. Prosecutors stressed the severity of the neglect, noting that all six charges reflect “a pattern of abuse and dangerous living conditions.”
Prosecutor’s Strong Statement
“This is one of the most, if not the most serious, child sexual abuse and neglect cases I have ever prosecuted,” Muskogee County Assistant District Attorney Janet Hutson said. She confirmed each charge against the defendants carries a possible sentence of up to life in prison.
Court Proceedings Ahead
Bond for Dustin and Cherie Walker has been set at $100,000 each. A court hearing, known as a sounding docket, is scheduled for September 3. It remains unclear whether either defendant has secured legal representation.
