President Donald Trump has revealed that his long-discussed White House ballroom will be much larger than initially announced, with capacity expanded to over 900 guests. Originally designed to hold 650, the new plan reflects a 40% increase. Trump says the project will eliminate the need for hosting leaders and diplomats in temporary outdoor tents, marking the largest White House alteration since World War II.

Ballroom Size Increased
Speaking with NBC News, Trump confirmed the expansion, describing the addition as unmatched globally. “We’re making it a little bigger. It will be top of the line, as good as it can get anywhere in the world,” he said. The White House had previously projected a 650-person ballroom, but Trump’s latest comments set the figure above 900.

Purpose of New Facility
Trump argued the ballroom fulfills a pressing need at the busy White House. He explained that the facility will prevent world leaders and foreign dignitaries from dining under temporary tents on the South Lawn. According to him, a dedicated indoor venue reflects the prestige expected from the U.S. presidency.

Funding and Supporters
The ballroom is expected to cost at least $200 million. Trump confirmed that he will personally finance the project, while also noting the involvement of private donors described by the White House as “patriots.” His role as a real estate developer, Trump said, equips him to directly oversee construction quality and progress.

Construction Already Underway
Trump told reporters on Friday that work on the ballroom has already begun. “Right there, you see all the trucks,” he said, pointing toward the South Lawn. “They just started construction of the new ballroom for the White House.” The project represents the most significant White House expansion since President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s East Wing addition in 1942.

Historic White House Changes
The new ballroom is expected to replace the East Wing, traditionally home to the First Lady’s office and staff. This redesign marks the most substantial architectural change in decades, reshaping one of the nation’s most recognizable landmarks. Trump emphasized his hands-on involvement in ensuring the facility becomes a “world-class” venue.

A Difficult Week for Trump
The announcement comes after a turbulent week marked by the killing of Trump’s close friend, conservative activist Charlie Kirk, during a Turning Point USA event in Utah. The loss has deeply affected the president as he continues to balance personal challenges with political responsibilities.

Upcoming U.K. Visit
Trump is also preparing for a high-profile state visit to the United Kingdom. On Tuesday, he and First Lady Melania Trump will attend a state dinner at Windsor Castle hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla. “I look forward to saying hello to Charles and Camilla,” Trump told NBC News. “It’s going to be incredible. It’s such a great honor.” The event makes Trump the first American president invited for two state visits in Britain, following his 2019 trip hosted by Queen Elizabeth.
